hey so i just want to make a serious post saying… i truly don’t care if some of y'all (who are lgbt) wanna headcanon kara as queer… like… you do what you want. but acting like it’s somehow more progressive than someone else who sees her as a lesbian? absolutely fucking not. kara isn’t canonly lgbt. people can headcanon her as whatever they want and it’s not erasing anything. so stop being a dumbass.
but also this fandom has such a bad problem with using queer as an umbrella term, using it in fic without tagging it, acting like it’s something all of the characters are okay with, calling alex and maggie together “queer” when they’re BOTH lesbians, etc. i understand to some of you the word is empowering and you have every right to use it for yourself in any way you want, but it’s also a slur and tossing it around like it means nothing without taking the necessary precautions (like simply tagging) is really fucking insensitive.
like idk every time i hear (sometimes see but. mostly hear) the word i get ugly chills down my spine. every time we had to read that fucking robert frost poem in english class and my teacher always said how queer meant abnormal and weird i was reminded that that’s what people think of me. i’d just really fucking appreciate it if people realize that while the word can be positive it has a lot of weight behind it
